Integrated Digital Solution (IDS) is a small consulting and contract engineering companies that specializes in the design and implementation of innovative digital TV systems. The majority of IDS workers telecommute which is entirely consistent with the reason IDS cofounders started the company in 1998, to improve their quality of life associated with work. IDS shelters its developers from the churn in direction and seemingly endless hours of meetings typical of many companies and provides a professional environment rich with exciting technologies and applications where they can excel while enjoying the flexibility and benefits of being able to work primarily from home. We have developed, integrated and launched multiple new media services and platforms including Disney's MovieBeam service and USDTV's "best of cable" service. We are currently in third year with the same customer developing new consumer services delivered via the Internet using the latest video streaming technologies. We are looking for a platform / deployment engineer to help manage the deployment of our software services platform for multiple international deployments.

Assignment Details:
* Work location - Your home office or our office in Redondo Beach area south of LAX
* We have developers in Los Angeles, San Jose, Las Vegas and Salt lake City
* Duration - initial development effort is 12 months, follow on is highly likely, some developers have been with us more than 8 years
* Compensation - competitive

Primary Responsibilities:
* Proper configuration of CentOS(Redhat variant) with only the core application (e.g. no CUPS printer app for lights out operation)
* Proper configuration of init scripts and run levels such that proper daemons, processes and applications start on boot at the proper run level
* Proper configuration of the routing tables, iptables and eth0/1. Data provided but would need to ensure that it persists across boots
* Proper configuraton of application servers (Tomcat, JBOSS, PHP, RAILS) such that memory space and initialization parameters are explicitly set at run time
* Setup monitoring of OS, processes, application memory, connection pools, OS error logs, Application error logs via Nagios and display via Cacti
* The goal of all the above is to get to a finely tuned and honed install base that has only the required apps, proper configured such that the various application servers can communicate properly over the network. The install process should be highly repeatable, easy to maintain/adjust and quick for patch updates. The monitoring tools should provide for ease of pointing out significant issues that are used to memory, connection pools, disk space, OS or Application error logs via notifications to email or SMS
* Document all work including writing functional and design specifications

* Self-starter that is capable of creative and innovative problem solving
* Must have very good written and verbal communication skills
* Must provide two professional references from last two assignments, projects, employments if you are short listed
