interpreter Translator job: Chinese, Korean, Iraqi

Are you a native speaker of and an expert in:

Chinese-Mandarin, Korean, or Iraqi-Arabic?

Are you fluent in English?

Please read carefully through this entire posting to determine if you qualify for this opportunity.

This is a short-time consulting PAID arrangement to participate in a language panel. The task will be to participate in a language panel to set standards on language proficiency exams for a DC-based government contractor. You will be fully trained in the task.

This is a contracting position, not a job. It involves approximately 20 hours from start to finish.

You will be working from your own home or office. NO TRAVEL.

If you meet ALL of the qualifications below, ALL availability requirements, and ALL technological requirements, please send the following in your email reply to this posting:

A cover letter and a resume with all the required qualification information. Put both the cover letter and the resume in one file together and in PDF format, and with the cover letter indicating the language or languages for which you wish to be considered. Any evidence of target language knowledge should be submitted or referenced within the resume or as an appendix, as it would greatly increase your chances of qualifying candidates for this engagement. Again, all of these items need to be in one PDF file.

We will be selecting several specialists for each language panel.

Qualifications:

A. Fluent in English.

B. Native speaker in the target language, with demonstrable expertise in teaching the target language.

C. Able to understand and become familiar with the U.S. Government’s Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) descriptions. (Perform a web search on “Interagency Language Roundtable” for more information.)

D. Understand what is the DLPT test. (Again, perform a web search to learn more.)


Availability Requirements:

MUST be available during the following days and hours, without interruptions (there will be breaks): All times are Eastern.


WED 9 Mar 2011: 11am-1pm (for Chinese, Korean, and Iraqi panelists)

THU 10 Mar 2011: 11am-1pm (for Chinese panelists only); 1pm-3pm (for Korean panelists only); 3pm-5pm (for Iraqi panelists only)

FRI 11 Mar 2011: 10:45am-5pm (for Chinese, Korean, and Iraqi panelists)

MON 14 Mar 2011: 10:45am-4:30pm (for Chinese, Korean, and Iraqi panelists)

TUE 15 Mar 2011: 10:45am-4:30pm (for Chinese panelists only)

WED 16 Mar 2011: 10:45am-4:30pm (for Korean panelists only)

THU 17 Mar 2011: 10:45am-4:30pm (for Iraqi panelists only)



Technological Requirements:

Your own computer.

A stable telephone connection with speakerphone and mute capabilities. (Skype will not work well with this.)

A stable Internet connection.

MS Excel (2003 or later version).

Basic knowledge of Excel such as how to save a file, how to attach a file to an email, how to download a file from an email, how to move from worksheet to worksheet in a file, and how to enter information into and change the values in cells.

A modern web browser.

Able to read PDF files.

Comfortable working in a virtual, remote, environment.


The Selection Process:

Candidates providing all required information as per the instruction will be considered. Candidates judged to be qualified by the contractor will then be contacted for a 15 minute phone interview. The interviewer will then forward information from the most qualified candidates to the Government for acceptance on the panel. Those accepted into the panel will then be contacted again to complete contractual paperwork.
